A Byron Bay based DJ hopes to appear this year at a festival that was launched when she was a toddler.

Earthcore, which had its first outing in 1993 in Victoria, has started a poll to find out who punters want to see at their outdoor event later this year, and a local DJ who is the only woman in the poll is currently rated number 1.

Part of the 3rd Eye Productions team, Morgan Archer who plays under the name Morgazmk. She started dabbling in DJing about five years ago in Sydney and became more serious about it as a profession when she moved to the area a couple of years ago.

‘When I moved up here I started taking an outdoor coffee shop to bush parties – I met the crew, discovered psytrance and one thing let to another and now I am performing on a massive scale.’

Archer says she was surprised to see herself in an online poll which started about two months ago. The prize for the DJ with the most votes is a set at Earthcore in the Park 2017 – NSW to be held in November near Sydney.  ‘At the time people could just send in the name of the DJ they wanted to see on the main stage at Earthcore New South Wales,’ she says. ‘I discovered myself on there and thought that was cool, and apparently I was in the top group on this list.’

Earthcore turned the most popular six artists into a Facebook poll and as we write, Morgazmk is on top closely followed by Borris.

Morgan says that Earthcore is the largest trance festival in the country and now the owner has branched out doing festival in each state. ‘This event is the New South Wales in the park version of the festival which is held over one night and two days.’

Archer says it feels strange to be in an online poll but it’s also great to feel the love. ‘It’s good to know that people support me. In Sydney I was busy being a mum and focused on that and didn’t have a huge social life. Moving up here has expanded my life.

‘It’s tricky being on a poll. I don’t really care if I win because I just like to play music and don’t care where I do it as long as I get to do it, but it’s nice to see people keen.

‘If I win I’ll get to play at the festival which I believe has up to 10,000 people in the audience. It would be hugely intimidating but it would be so exciting at the same time.’

Morgan says in recents months she has been playing to some big crowds at club gigs in Brisbane and on the gold coast so she has been fine tuning her skills. ‘That’s definitely given me the confidence I need to go and play on a bigger scale.’

Mother of two boys, Morgan says she couldn’t perform without the help of her partner Jason. ‘Having children grounds you and I’m thankful for it every day of my life, and this lifestyle wouldn’t have been achievable without the support of my partner.’

Morgazmk says she can’t wait for the opportunity to hit the Earthcore event.

‘I love it. I just love it. I didn’t know psytrance until I moved up here and it’s just the energy that comes with it. It’s not the drugs, it’s not any of that crap that everyone thinks it is. It’s actually just the heart behind it. Adding to that and bringing the music the make that what it is makes it so awesome.’
