Children at Ocean Shores Public School have donated six swags to the Mullumbimby Neighbourhood Centre, which will go to homeless people in the area.

The idea came from year four and five students in 4/5B at the school after talking about homelessness in the local area. Teacher Sharon Buckley told The Echo, ‘The children decided that we could have a pyjama day to raise money for them. I already knew about Street Swags, so I suggested to the children we could raise money to purchase swags. They loved the idea.’

Two class representatives, Evie Boschma-Wagner and Jesse Bravington, presented the idea to the principal Martin Gill, who thought it was a great idea too – the class then designed posters and talked at the assembly to promote the event.

‘The whole school became involved, including the teachers who wore pyjamas on the day as well,’ said Ms Buckley.

‘I am very proud of how hard the students in my class worked promoting the event and of how the school and community supported the initiative.’
