An unexpected vote for two Rous representatives from Lismore Council

A not-for-profit Indigenous pre-school in Lismore has asked the council to sell a parcel of land in Goonellabah so that it can relocate.

The Jarjum Centre Inc, which is currently situated at Rifle Range Road in East Lismore, wants to move to a vacant parcel of land at Clifford Park in Goonellabah, which was previously occupied by the Goonellabah Scout Hall.

The Jarjum Centre, which has designs for a new facility at Clifford Park, has already identified funding sources for the move but needs the council to agree to the sale of the land.

In a report to be considered next week, staff have recommended that the council continue working with the childcare centre to ensure the relocation takes place.

‘The Clifford Park site is considered ideal as the new home for Jarjum Preschool,’ the report says.

‘The lot is of a suitable size, located within the community which Jarjum largely assists, and would potentially complement the Northern United Rugby League Club’s activities at the ground involving the Indigenous community.’

The report recommends getting a valuation of the Clifford Park land, and authorising the general manager to negotiate the sale for $160,000 plus GST, or in accordance with the valuation, whichever is higher.
