The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter recovered a 48-year-old male from an incident near North Arm, Murwillumbah, on Saturday.

At around 1pm the man was mowing his neighbour’s lawn on a ride on lawnmower. The victim was driving up a hill with a 60 degree slope when he ran over two tree roots that made the ride on mower roll over.

The ride mower has rolled on top of the victim causing multiple injures. He suffered a compound fracture to his right leg, back injury with internal bleeding, lacerations to his right arm and hand, bruising and bleeding over his body.

Four ambulances with police and the helicopter responded.

Police and ambulance officers carried the victim down the steep hill to the waiting heli-ambulance.

The patient was flown by the rescue helicopter to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
