Myrelle Hurst, Murwillumbah.

I wanted to make a comment regarding the Nationals’ display at the Murwillumbah Show, promoting Thomas George and Geoff Provest.

I noticed they were handing out balloons and I asked why are they handing out balloons when they are so bad for the environment?

This was met with sniggers. Really, in this day and age when it is a well known fact that broken balloons are very bad for the environment and wildlife, and given that we live near the Coast, wouldn’t it make common sense by those wanting to govern to just not hand them out?

Just ask Seabird Rescue what the aftermath they have to deal with.

I am sure the party could find something else, non harmful, to hand out to the kids.

The Nationals just don’t appear to care!

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. You’re right Myrelle, and their response shows their level of ignorance. But don’t worry, Thomas George is quoting politics and Sue Higginson (Greens) could become the next member for Lismore and Geoff Provest might be joining him in retirement
