A man was flown for treatment at a Gold Coast hospital after a violent assault in Nimbin on 1 January around 12.10am.

Police said the incident took place on the western side of Cullen Street at a location known as ‘The Blister’, a one-metre high rock wall.

Two men had started arguing and punches were thrown. One of the men suffered a head injury and lost consciousness.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter transferred the man to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, at 7.40am on 2 January, police arrested a 35-year-old Nimbin man.

He was charged with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm and Affray.

He was released on conditional bail and will appear in Lismore Local Court later this month.

Police believe this incident was witnessed by several people who may be able to greatly assist the investigation.
