Police responded to an unexpected call for assistance this morning after a wallaby was spotted crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Officers from Harbourside and North Shore local area commands were called to the bridge just before 5am Tuesday (January 16) after the marsupial was spotted in lane eight on the northern side of the bridge.
Traffic controllers from the Transport Management Centre monitored the wallaby as it hopped across to lane one and, without indicating, exited onto Cahill Expressway then to Macquarie Street.
Officers took the startled macropod into police custody near the Conservatorium of Music, with the Police Mounted Unit arriving on scene soon after to take it to the zoo for veterinary assessment.
It’s thought the wayward wallaby might have made its way to the bridge from a golf course in Cammeray.
Ok, the Sydney Harbour Bridge is now on the wallaby track.
Pick up you swag heave it to your shoulder and don’t look back
Which way was the wallaby heading, just where was his shack?
The marsupial was spotted they say when there were no spots on that roo.
or stripes, and at that place no zebra crossing or anything African gnu.
The police nabbed this roo because he changed lanes without indicating
He jumped at the chance to change from eight to one, and started accelerating.
Down the expressway into Macquarie Street and on to parliament like a hare,
No, he did not hop down to the Domain or sit on Mrs Macquaries’ chair.
He faced the music and was caught at the Conservatorium of Music.
Then in the police van he was off to the zoo to the ‘big house’ to stay
for Taronga Zoo was just a short hop, step and a jump away.
Great to see the wild life is back with a police escort
Was it wearing its ETag for toll?
