Tiny homes taken to next level

Vince Kean, Murwillumbah

A Nationals MP has posted a threatening photo on a social media website. Why is he not in police custody? Had he been an Islamic from Sydney’s west he would already be incarcerated, interrogated and looking at a long holiday at her majesty’s pleasure. If we allow a plea that it was only a joke we must accept that defence from every nutter with a grudge against some social group or society in general, and an urge to grandstand.

Clearly, of course, it cannot be considered a joke. He obtained the photo specifically to make his social media post. It was not some act of impulsive stupidity. I doubt that he habitually carries around a portrait of himself with a gun extended in a threatening fashion. There was an element of premeditation and deliberation about the post.

Is he now on a federal police watch list? If not why not? His social media post is clearly an incitement to likeminded persons to commit a terrorist act. Does his status as a Nationals parliamentarian give him immunity from prosecution?

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online.
