The Byron Bay L J Hooker second grade XI became joint major premiers of the 2017/18 Coastal League Competition, sharing this honour with Cudgen cricket club after a rain affected grand final played at Norm Rabjones Oval in Murwillumbah last Saturday.
Joint premiers were declared as the game could not be completed due to rain making the ground unplayable.
The game got underway with the Byron side winning the toss and sending Cudgen in.
They were 2/86 in the 17th over when a torrential downpour sealed the fate of the day.
Martie Irwin and Matt Irwin were Byron’s wicket-takers and Craig Wilson hit a quick 66 for Cudgen.
Not the best way to finish off a season but as this is a combined Tweed and Ballina District competition, it is sort of fitting that a team from each district shared the spoils.
