Alma McAllister, Secretary, Tweed Heads Branch ALP.
At its April meeting the Tweed Heads Branch of the ALP unanimously resolved its opposition to the use of state-significant prime agricultural land to site the much needed new Tweed Hospital.
Our members felt strongly that selecting this Kingscliff site ignores the prohibitions expressed in the NSW Government policy and the Tweed Shire LEP. It also shows a deep misunderstanding of local community values and a contempt for the spirit of the law governing development control in NSW.
Whilst we welcome the overdue new hospital, we call on Geoff Provest MP to revisit his Government’s location decision, and review the 29 discarded sites with the intent of joining with the community in selecting a more appropriate site- one that meets community expectations and statutory compliance, yet does not undermine the hard-won development standards that have been achieved for the Tweed coastal villages.
