Byrrill Creek Road has been closed about 5km from the Kyogle Road turnoff due to a landslip.
Council has closed the road after contractors working to repair a downside slip that occurred during Cyclone Debbie noticed cracks in the road pavement about 1.5 metres from the edge which were widening quickly, leaving the road unsafe and impassable.
The failure is west of Cedar Creek Road, allowing that community continued access in and out via Kyogle Road. Any residents west of the closure will have to travel a longer route via Tyalgum.
The contractors will work over the weekend in a bid to get the road stabilised and reopened by Monday. They are bringing more resources in to assist with the work and will place signage at the detour points.
Traffic control is currently on site turning vehicles around on both sides of the failure.
