The body of a baby girl has been found on a beach at Surfers Paradise overnight, less than a kilometre from where schoolies were partying the night away.
A member of the public discovered the body while walking on the beach shortly after midnight.
Seven news reports that two people are in custody over the death of the child, which is not believed to be linked in any way to the schoolies celebrations.
However, because of the extra emergency services in the area, police and paramedics were reportedly on the scene very quickly and attempted unsuccessfully to perform CPR on the child.
According to police ‘the body had been in the water at some stage’.
They have yet to release any details as to her age or identity.
