A boy has been charged over the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl in the state’s north last month.

Just after 8pm on 6 December 2018, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a male at a soccer field in Ballina.

The girl reported the incident to police and officers from Richmond Police District commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, a search warrant was executed at a home on Fox Street at Ballina this morning (Friday 4 January 2019).

A 16-year-old boy was arrested at the home and taken to Ballina Police Station where he was charged with sexual intercourse without consent.

The boy was refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Friday 4 January 2019).
