Although the phrase itself has become discredited politicians are still pushing the line that pill testing at festivals ‘sends the wrong message’.
I find this phrase highly amusing. It is only the vanity and narcissism of politicians that makes them believe that anyone is interested in their opinions or messages.
This is particularly true of young people. Many young people see society, government, and politics as a conspiracy to deprive them of their energy and creativity (and they’re not far wrong).
Gladys Berejiklian’s illogical arguments are designed to appeal to the conservative base of her party. They’re a scare tactic completely divorced from reality. They’re designed to appeal to those thinking ‘why can’t they just get pissed the way we used to’.
