The Byron Bay Surf Festival is well under way with plenty of activities over the weekend to keep every surfer happy. Tropical cyclone Oma might have a hand in what unfolds, but organisers say it’s full steam ahead.

As Oma’s weather warnings continued to spread through town, the forecasts have not dampened festival spirits. In fact, the excitement of unprecedented surf potential in line with the festival, has only heightened the crowd’s enthusiasm, excited to witness event special guests in the water.

This year the surf festival hosts are Mark Occhilupo, Dave Rastovich, Lisa Anderson and Kelia Moniz just to name a few.

The festival continues today, and this weekend with the Beach Hotel music line up, Women’s Panel, Loan Goat Gallery Art Show and Freestyle & Stoke at Wategos this Sunday.

After close consideration of the BoM weather patterns for today, the festival has relocated the GoPro Sunset Cinema to the Beach Hotel and cancelled the Friday Twilight Market.

A decision regarding the Saturday is pending.

Despite weather conditions, the festival demographic no doubt will be happy with swell pumping under near-gale-force SSE winds, surf expected to reach 10 – 12 ft. Mother nature wants to see a good show.

One of the highlights of the festival is a great raffle of a McTavish surfboard – tickets are available for only $10 or $24 for three –  at all the festival events and it will be drawn on Sunday during the freestyle event.

So far the festival has been awesome, the rest of the program is here:
