A 34-year old male from Tabulam has been charged with breaking and entering and committing an indictable offence at a property in Byron Bay last Thursday (14 February).

The man is alleged to have entered the Bayshore Drive premises through the front screen door at around 9pm.

The male victim saw the intruder and confronted him. Police allege the accused grabbed the victim by the throat, assaulting him in front of his partner and their 19-month-old daughter .

Police were contacted and arrived a short time later but the accused had left the scene.

A good description was obtained of the alleged offender and at 1.40pm on Friday, February 15, the accused was arrested walking along Bangalow Road, Byron Bay, into town wearing clothing as described by the victim and witness.

The man was taken to Byron Bay Police Station and charged.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Lismore Bail Court.

Police are reminding people to secure their properties even when home.
