Bianca Haberman, The Pocket

Thank you, Mercato, for bringing concrete mediocrity and ensuring the homogenisation of Byron.

Thank you for not living up to what we were told was your pledge to include five-star cutting-edge environmental features.

Thank you for not building the proposed aesthetically pleasing building that was rendered in your updated submission at Council; for inadequate pedestrian access from both sides of Jonson Street; for cold ugly cement slabs in the cold ugly forecourt (already filthy); for black steel building trims.

I feel that you have must little interest in the wellbeing and continuing ambience of Byron and its attractiveness.

The structure is cold and uninviting. Now we are stuck with it.

Heaven help us if you are allowed to apply your regard for locals and your sense of aesthetics to the proposed monstrosity next door (on the Woolies site).

You have compromised the visual and sentient feel of Byron, and should be held accountable.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
