Update:

Ballina Council has re-opened all Ballina Shire beaches from noon today. This follows the shark ‘encounter’ that took place yesterday at Lennox Head point that led to the council closing all Ballina beaches for 24 hours.

Original story:

Following what a Ballina Council media release is calling a shark ‘encounter’ at Lennox Head point earlier today, Ballina Shire Council, in conjunction with Surf Life Saving NSW and NSW Police have made the decision to close all Ballina Shire beaches for 24 hours.

The community are reminded that the closures are enforceable and extend from Seven Mile Beach, Lennox Head to South Ballina Beach, South Ballina.

Beach signage is now being erected by Council crews along beach access points.

Council will provide a further update once beaches have reopened at noon tomorrow.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
