One of the biggest wastes of water in our society is the water that runs down the drain before the hot water emerges.
Years ago someone on the New Inventors invented a system that resolved this issue. The preliminary cold water was fed into a tank and this water was expelled first when you turned on the cold tap.
The inventor thought that between a quarter to a third of water was lost if the water wasn’t diverted. What’s more the system could be retro-fitted. Why this system hasn’t been made mandatory I don’t understand.
What I do is to keep a bucket next to the hand basin and before using any water from tap or shower I bail the cold water into a bucket to use later. Up to five litres can be saved this way. It’s not difficult, it’s just a matter of developing new habits. Give it a go.
