Greg Davies, Byron Bay
Accepting Lyon’s irrational rant against Paul Jones as Lyon’s words (published by The Echo without bias); features of Lyon’s character appear to include immaturity and paranoia. That much was revealed by Lyon’s attempts to justify the outdated, hazard-prone, and ineffectual Butler Street bypass.
I wish to correct one environmental misrepresentation Lyon made ‘… after hearing that no species will be further endangered or go extinct…’ (letter 12 June).
The bypass EIS January 11, 2016, page 101 stated: ‘Ten threatened species have been recorded during previous surveys conducted within and adjacent to the site… In addition, there is a suitable habitat for a further six threatened fauna species that have been previously recorded in the locality or are predicted to occur.’
Lyon’s assertion does not identify with the public record. Council’s intended destruction of these hectares of endangered habitat is entirely avoidable and unnecessary.
