Mandy Nolan’s Soapbox: Byron’s Back

‘Byron’s dead’. That’s the statement that I often hear. Or ‘I never go there anymore it’s lost’ or ‘Byron died years ago’. It always makes me feel a bit sad and defensive. I have such a love for this place, although I curse it when I get stuck in snaking traffic at 8am on a weekday morning or I can’t find a park near where I am going.

The Channon resilient after disaster

Northern Rivers communities are nothing if not resilient and The Channon community is preparing to take a proactive stance when it comes to disasters in the area.

Donald Maughan, President SPPA

The Suffolk Park community and the Suffolk Park Progress Association (SPPA) are encouraging families to support our children by lobbying the state government to allocate grant money to finance the building of a pump track on their new community field of Beech Drive.

These grant funds are to be allocated on a first-past-the-post voting system to community projects. You have to be over 16 to vote and must have a Medicare card number. So if we want our kids to get this facility, we the adults have to vote for the ‘Suffolk Park Pump Track’ at My Community Project. Select ‘Ballina electorate’, follow the prompts, and register to ‘vote 1’ Suffolk Park Pump Track. Each person can only vote for three to five projects; however, you can encourage your adult partner, friend, grandparents, and neighbours to vote as well.

This pump track is only part of the overall masterplan structures that the Suffolk community have developed for our new park land. The draft masterplan can be viewed online.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
