Tashi Lhamo, Admin, Stop 5G Northern Rivers NSW

We see you avoiding us…

It’s been months now since you offered to stage a public event to address the impacts of 5G in the Shire – still nothing, nada, zero, except delay tactics that make a mockery of your ‘community engagement policy’.

You’ve sidetracked us with tasks your own staff should have done, if you cared to give clear directive.

This could have been your legacy. It’s clear you don’t represent us.

No Simon, WE ARE NOT nut-jobs. Nor are we all activists. Mostly we are Gen X parents. We are educated, passionate and concerned.

Our driving motivation is that we don’t want our kids to end up as a statistic of brain cancer: the number one killer in Australian children. We stand tall next to all the women and men that also care for the children, humanity and the environment.

We are educators, doctors, scientists, lawyers, professionals, creatives and a rising community that refuse to be bullied and patronised any longer.

Being labelled conspiracy theorists by the naysayers just doesn’t fit our profile. The reality is, we refer to independent mainstream science for our informed understanding. Mainstream media keeps pushing a compromised governing body (ARPANSA) down our throats and the poster-boy for pro 5G Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, just leaves us gagging with his misinformation.

Seriously, enough is enough!

People like Dr Charlie Teo are our heroes because not only is he Australia’s top neurosurgeon; he has the guts to stand up to the multibillion-dollar telecommunications Industry and request safety standards for mobile phones.

Dr Teo spends his days cutting out cancers on the side of the brain that people prefer to hold their phones. This is no BS, Simon. But please don’t believe everything in the mainstream news because they will lie to you too. Dr Teo is a gifted man of integrity and the corrupt system is trying to slander his impeccable reputation.

Did you know Apple and Samsung are now being sued for mobile phone safety negligence in the US?

These companies have been exposed, for phones emitting radiation up-to five times over the standard. This is why 5G cannot move ahead unless we address the absence of our safety standards. These safety tests were done 30 years ago, on a dummy based on a 100kg six foot adult male military recruit, which only considers 3 per cent of the population on the phone for six minutes a day!

We are not S.A.M and that goes for 97 per cent of us!

So, if the industry can’t be trusted and the science is evidently on our side, it’s disgraceful that you have knowingly chosen to climb the corporate ladder instead of walk side by side with your community Mr Mayor.

Byron Shire said ‘NO!’ to McDonald’s, ‘NO!’ to fluoride and ‘NO!’ to CSG Fracking. What’s going to happen on your watch, NO 5G?

Or is it ‘YES’ to an increase in radiation and a side of wi-fried? Will you accept liability for the assault of the un-seen or are you turning a blind eye? Will you pretend you didn’t know this was unfolding, even though we know you have been presented the evidence already?

Claiming further ignorance at this point, would just be dumb.

We’ve done our local research and guess what? Businesses in the Byron Shire don’t want faster internet for millimetre radiation waves beaming at them while they work. Homeowners don’t want their property prices to drop when transmitter cell boxes are put on light poles outside their door. Parents don’t want their children exposed to increased microwave radiation 24/7.

The propaganda fed through mainstream media compares 5G to that of a harmless microwave. How stupid do they think we are? Microwaves have doors on them with shielding to keep the radiation in.

How do you propose we keep the radiation out of our community Simon?

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

    • Radiobiology is the study of ionising radiation on living things, whereas 5G operates in the millimetre wave area of the non-ionising spectrum. Comparing the two is a little like apples and oranges. Just a fact check that I’m sure you will appreciate.

    • I come to Byron for a holiday break every year with my family – I will be avoiding it like the plague if 5G is installed there. People coming to Byron Bay in particular will not appreciate 5G in this health-conscious and special town.

      • Since 5G will be rolled out nationaly you will need to holiday overseas. Nauru has been slow to take on new technology, but the beaches aren’t as good.

    • As a physicist and Doctor of acupuncture I have been alarmed for years at the ubiquitous adoption of wireless technology. Mr. Anderson lost his wife to a brain tumour -after being warned of the dangers of mobile phones. Perhaps it is just easier to live in denial?

What is most ethically and morally wrong is that one person forces their opinion and radiation into another innocent person’s space. This is an insult to the concept of personal liberty -something government and big business seem far too comfortable with.

  1. @Fact Check – and what ARPANSA employee is a radiobiologist, and why did they omit/dismiss the 1000’s of scientific studies that PROVE EMR does harm to living beings? Show me evidence that 5G is safe.

  2. Senate Enquiry 2002 concludes
    – ARPANSA should not be the safety body
    – a body without industry connection should be in charge of safety standards
    – the safety limit should be set 5 times lower than it currently is

Mike Repacholi (then head of ICNIRP) and WHO EMF project commented that the setting of safety standards should not include those in industry who can benefit from the outcome – this is against the good practice of WHO. He further noted that this good practice is not the case in Australia …..

    ARPANSA is compromised …..

  3. No-one on ARPANSA’s expert review body is medically qualified – they are physicists and psychologists! I’ll take Dr Charlie Teo Thanks

  4. The precautionary principle needs to apply,
The onus to prove safety should not be on the public but on the regulators. No one can say that this fiveG technology is safe , there has been no long term studies for prolonged and continuous exposure .
Before drugs are put out on the market, they are safety tested .
The fact these antennas will be everywhere and inescapable makes it worse and unconscionable. Unlike smoking , we can’t opt out .

  5. Byron is supposed to be a haven. I certainly will not be visiting this area if 5G is installed there. Councils are waking up all over the world. It is unnecessary, ugly, expensive, and harmful to living beings.

  6. We are selling our home near Sydney to move to the Byron Bay Hinterland for the very reason of escaping the 5G and living amongst a community that is aware and stands together to fight for what they believe or don’t believe in. It’s so disappointing to hear that the council is not backing the community against the roll out of 5G. Where can we go to escape it???
