Meg Pickup, Ballina

The aggressive tactics of what I now think of as the Dutton Government has overwhelmed Australians, enabling it to get away with anything that suits its purposes.

This cannot happen unchallenged.

In an interview at the recent Byron Writers Festival Marcus Zusak author of The Book Thief summed the book up thus, and I paraphrase ‘Hitler destroyed people with words. She (Liesel Meminger, the book thief) stole the words back.’

Today the Australian government destroys people with words and actions.

Politicians are our servants. We are not their whipping boys.

It’s time we stood up to this morally bankrupt government and stole the words back to set an honest agenda ensuring Australia returns to an even keel.

Changing the agenda my necessitate civil disobedience because politicians ignore us.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Meg must not have noticed we live in a democracy and Peter Dutton and the Government were voted back in at the election.
Personally I think Peter Dutton is doing an outstanding job.

  2. Yes, I’d like to know what Peter Dutton’s done
apart from dumping badly distressed grown-
ups & children on an island because he says
they won’t be harmed in Seri Lanka. A lie &
he knows it. I’ve a General Practitioner friend
from there & the outcome will be chilling. As
well, I think – along with others – that Dutton’s
eye is on the leadership of this country…
ScoMo is a fill-in. There’s more, but why on
earth bother to list the rest. Outstanding???
    So was Judas.

  3. Allan, Tasmania. Very correct Meg regarding politicians, they are our servants, we are not their peasant underlings. But it always seems like they think they are untouchable. Watch how many run for the hills and plains when a Federal ICAC is formed!
