Raphael Lee Cass, Byron Bay
‘Water supply critically low,’ (Echo, January 8).
We had a drought in Sydney in 2007 and Randwick Council installed 30-second timers on the beach showers at Maroubra, and you had to wait 60 seconds for a second go. This timing usually meant no second go. Waverley Council simply turned off the beach showers at Bondi, Bronte and Tamarama.
I have seen hundreds of people using the showers on Byron beaches excessively. Some standing under water with repeated button pushes, some washing that aberrant grain of sand off their big toe, and others walking away while the shower runs out its time.
It’s time for Byron Council to turn off the showers.
