Jim Beatson, Byron Bay

Who does one believe; Australia’s High Court judges or perhaps Australia’s greatest investigative journalist, Sarah Ferguson?

Justices of the High Court are appointed by the Governor-General in Council on the advice of the Commonwealth Attorney-General and the Federal Cabinet.

While the Walkley Award winning journalist, Sarah Ferguson, in her no expenses spared, four and a half hour, three part series, Revelation (you can still watch it on ABC iview), investigated paedophilia in the Catholic Church in Australia. She spent the whole of her final 90 minute program on a forensic examination of Cardinal Pell’s career, focussing on his past, the recent charges, and there are new charges to come!

No viewer could be left with any confidence after this decision by the High Court of Australia.

This decision says a lot about the narrowness of legalistic interpretations in the High Court of Australia and nothing about George Pell.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
