I’m looking forward to Starlink. It will operate with solar power in space, unlike the terrestrial internet which consumes more electricity than some countries. Starlink = reduced emissions!
It will have small latency, higher speed, better quality video, and will always be connected, everywhere. That means less need to fly to conferences = reduced emissions!
Horizontal communication through space, allowing zero-radiation optical links means fewer horizontal signals through buildings, streets, and trees. Uplink signal will be beamed up with minimal dispersion of radiation. Downlink signal can be low intensity because there are no objects in the way which is better for the environment and animals, including humans.
Fewer extra underground networks and minimal infrastructure means reduced construction costs and environmental damage.
Funding for multi-planetary civilisation could potentially enable the reduction of our terrestrial population, resource consumption, and avoid ecological collapse on Earth. Fantastic for Earth’s environment.
