Victoria’s Premier Daniel Andrews should be applauded for his government’s unwavering effort to bring the second-wave COVID-19 outbreak under control.
Instead, he has been subjected to an unrelenting witch-hunt by the right-wing Murdoch media and the Liberal Party, for purely political reasons.
If mistakes were made, they certainly all weren’t in Victoria.
At the initial outbreak of the pandemic, the Federal government was far too slow to close Australia’s borders and force arrivals from world hotspots into quarantine, as New Zealand did, stopping community transmission in its tracks.
The Federal government continues to withhold information from the Ruby Princess inquiry.
Infected passengers were allowed to disembark and transport the virus to all corners of Australia.
When the State government eventually brought that under control and some states closed their borders, Scotty from marketing – with Gladys in tow – immediately started to bully those states into prematurely reopening borders, against medical advice.
Every medical expert warned that prematurely opening the borders and ending the lockdown too soon would lead to a second wave. So, let those free of sin cast the first stone.
