Cr Reece Byrnes.

Tweed Labor Councillor Reece Byrnes says he will nominate for the position of Deputy Mayor at Tweed Council’s next meeting on September 17.

‘It’s an honour to serve locals as a Councillor for the Tweed Shire and it would be a privilege to further that service as Deputy Mayor,’ said Councillor Byrnes.

Councillor Byrnes says he is committed to serving locals in this role with a strong focus on economic growth, rebuilding and recovery.

‘More than ever, as a Council and as community, we need to focus on the immediate task ahead – rebuilding our region after the COVID-19 crisis.

‘As we work towards a recovery for our Shire post COVID-19, locals are telling me they want certainty from our Council, and a plan for our future, a plan for jobs and a plan for our environment.

In the Tweed the Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected by the Councillors in a process managed by Tweed Shire Council. The Mayor is elected at the first meeting of the Council for a period of two years, the Deputy Mayor is elected for one year.

‘My message is clear,’ said Cr Byrnes. ‘As Deputy Mayor I’ll work hard to deliver on a plan for our future, a plan for jobs and a plan to protect our environment.

‘We are all in this together, and if I have the privilege of being elected as your Deputy Mayor, I’m committed to working hard every day for our community,’ said Councillor Byrnes.
