Nev Kelly, Ballina

Every now and then great moments in history occur. One such event just happened in New Zealand, where Jacinda Ardern’s Labour government was re-elected with a record-breaking majority. Well done Jacinda Ardern, her compassionate and efficient handlings of the Christchurch terrorist attack and now the COVID-19 pandemic should be a template for governments all around the world.

It was a crushing win for the Labour Party, totally pulverising the Nationals. New Zealanders can now look forward to more great governance, especially on strong economic policy, and especially on climate change action. It’s a massive difference to the prehistoric fossil-fuelled government Australians remain burdened with.

It’s really amazing to see such a humble and devoted female leader like Jacinda Ardern leading a modern successful country like New Zealand, without any of the hysterical and misogynistic attacks our first female PM, Julia Gillard, graciously endured from the psychopathic elements of the conservative right during her prime ministership.

The New Zealand election result prove just how well democracies can function when their governments govern honestly for the betterment of their countries and peoples, without the deceitful misinformation campaigns and marketing spin Australians are being constantly fed by this Morrison coalition government.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. 1. I whole-heartedly agree with you, Nev. There’s lots of room for an Ardern’s
twin right here – right now. So many in OZ just don’t get it let alone understand
that what’s being stuffed into our everyday lives will play in ‘pay-back’ soon
enough. The old Native American saying says it all. “Whatever you do to others
    you do to yourself”.

  2. New Zealanders also voted to legalise Euthanasia. The new NZ Ministry has been unveiled, the inclusive diversity is amazing and as well 2 Greens MP’s were included in Jacinda’s new Ministry. The world needs more Jacinda.

  3. Sounds like a nice place NEV, you should move there if it’s a better place.
No more Scomo etc you can even visit Hobbitville……..

  4. A very well written letter Nev. it could not have hit the mark better. Jacinda Adern is a highly regarded leader who has proven beyond doubt how to successfully manage a disaster and a pandemic, and what do us Australians have as a comparable “leader”? the “marketing guy” who was missing in action in Hawaii at the height of the unprecedented bushfire emergency. I have noticed that a certain contributor to these responses to letters has, in the past predicted that Jacinta Adern was heading towards a resounding defeat to be quickly followed by Qld. premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, and then Daniel Andrews, that’s really working out well for him isn’t it ? I’ll bet the Labor Party was glad to see the end of him.

  5. For the record keith , was quoting from NZ
Friends regarding Adern . However the people voted as they did in Qld and NZ and congratulate both ..👏
And wish them all the success moving forward.
Something you and your leftwing mates in the Labor Party could never do keith .. even the
Unions have a problem with the direction the Labor party are taking . Albo , Butler , burke , kennelly
Etc .. are they any different to Brandt ? No .
Federally labor will be in opposition for some time!

  6. Go out & buy a copy of “What Is To Be Done: Political Engagement and Saving the Planet”
by Barry Jones. Scribe is the publisher, Barrow. Remember Barry Jones? Labor flourished
then without ‘career politicians’. Arden’s leadership agrees with Jones’. In order to go forward
[silly saying] one needs to go back & learn again that ‘self interest’ doesn’t belong in politics.
Jones sees ‘enlightenment values are at risk’. “We see a retreat from reason; rejection of
facts & expertise; the rise of populism; a failure of ethical leadership & deepening corruption.”
And that’s only a very small part of it.
