Last week’s letter from Dailan Pugh contains many provable inaccuracies concerning sea level rise that are based on computer modelling rather than facts.
Readers may be relieved to know that measurements of sea level rise in Sydney Harbour have been recorded since 1886 with the latest measurement showing a rise of 0.65mm since 1886.
Or ‘about the height of a matchbox over a century’ according to Dr Geoff Derrick in a report titled Sea Level Rises in and Around Sydney Harbour 1886 to 2018.
Dailan and other well-known Echo contributors regularly state that [predicted] catastrophic sea level rises are indisputable facts.
An indisputable fact in Byron Shire is that coastal erosion and flooding here is caused by poor engineering works or neglected silted waterways.
It is time to fix this disastrous engineering and accept the real blame for our indisputably man-made problems.

For four decades The Echo has printed the stories some people loved, some people hated, and some pretended not to read. If you want us to keep telling the truth, the real truth, not the sugar-coated version. We’ll need your support to keep the presses rolling.
