Jim Mangleson, Ocean Shores

Last week’s letter from Dailan Pugh contains many provable inaccuracies concerning sea level rise that are based on computer modelling rather than facts.

Readers may be relieved to know that measurements of sea level rise in Sydney Harbour have been recorded since 1886 with the latest measurement showing a rise of 0.65mm since 1886.

Or ‘about the height of a matchbox over a century’ according to Dr Geoff Derrick in a report titled Sea Level Rises in and Around Sydney Harbour 1886 to 2018.

Dailan and other well-known Echo contributors regularly state that [predicted] catastrophic sea level rises are indisputable facts.

An indisputable fact in Byron Shire is that coastal erosion and flooding here is caused by poor engineering works or neglected silted waterways.

It is time to fix this disastrous engineering and accept the real blame for our indisputably man-made problems.

  1. Well Stefanie your council declared a Climate emergency without ratepayers input !!
Or facts . Just come up with the United nations
Adviced all countries to declare a CLIMATE EMERGENCY.. what a joke.. that what the council’s
Decision was based on.. please !!

  2. Barrow my man, have you even bothered yourself to have a look at that State of the Climate 2020 report? The oceans have warmed by a degree already and more warming is coming. Q – what happens with warming waters? A – it expands. Q – What happens to the melting ice of The Arctic, Greenland and the world’s glaciers? A, – it all flows into the oceans. But thankfully we have Scientist Barrow on hand to reassure us all, with his scientific research, to tell us that all that added ocean water volume is needless worrying on our part. C’mon man, ya can’t be serious.

  3. You poor people, maybe one day with some divine intervention you poor denialists may see the light, but I’m certainly not holding my breath. Your own Conservative Federal Govt. is now openly embracing Anthropogenic climate change; all Conservative State Govt’s. have accepted global warming for years and are now openly embracing renewable energy as the cheapest form of energy and committing to zero carbon emissions by 2050. Does this not even cast some doubt in your underutilized minds that there may be an element of truth in the overwhelming scientific evidence that since the late 18th century the planet is warming and sea-levels are rising, and it’s not a natural occurrence. Have lovely Christmas in your caves, so far it’s been the hottest on record.

  4. Keith ! you seem to want lecture all regarding
You bias selective memory ! as Jim has rightly pointed out sea level rises have risen 0.65 mm
From 1886 to 2018 do you research yourself
Keith ! you don’t need some warmist Scientist
Or your colleague Mr Flannery who also lectures
us on sea level rises and Global Warming !!
The planet has warmed by 0.6 of a degree since records began irrefutable Keith..
Not one of your Green colleagues or scientists
Can debunk this… well of course it’s the hottest on
Record what a load of BS , you and your mates at the ABC and the Guardian are in denial, panicking
Our kids with the very notion that the world is going
To end anytime soon ..shame , shame , shame !!
Turn your power of keith , and while your at it
Sell your aircon vehicle , and refrain from flying
From state to state . Yes mate you really are
Setting the example of minimizing your carbon footprint on earth Keith whilst lecturing everyone else !! Eliminate all that is coal and iron ore from your life Keith, go live in a cave for Christmas
and make a difference for the Planet .
What double standards ! and what hypocrisy.
    “Can’t believe it”

    • Barrow old son, the only thing that is irrefutable is that you are Denier of Science and a Denier of the Reality is around us all.

  5. It’s your parroting that drives people to the wall, Barrow. You are anti science, anti
computer, anti technology & even the ice levels seem to confuse you. What were
the read-outs on them back in time, hey. Were there ‘neglected waterways’ then?
No ice melts? No rise. This is the end of 2020… you just refuse to see what’s there.

  6. We are in a grand solar minimum
Know what that is Stefanie, Joachim?
We are more than likely to fall into a ice age
Record cold all over the world .. !!
Oh thats climate change as well.
you two just keep listening to the Scientists
Who incidentally have not made one Prediction
    That’s come true ..

    • Brrrrrrrrrr, it’s been so cold and getting colder as each decade since 1970 descends into Barrow’s imaginary Ice Age. Can someone please ask Mother Earth to turn on the heat to thaw out Barrow.

    • Barrow you obviously haven’t read anything in the past 2 decades to still be clinging to your belief that climate scientists are yet to make one prediction that has come true.

  7. Naturally I know what ‘it is’… it’s been explained to you in easy terms
& you still can’t get it because you prefer stupidity over common sense.
Your explanation is a lot like telling a woman ‘in labour’ that she’s only
    ‘half pregnant.’ Spare me!!!!

  8. Further… I’ve got my fingers in my ears. Talk about persecution…
Go & stick your head in a barrel of water, Barrow. Con’t tell me it’s
    coca cola without the rum.

  9. Barrow, read ’10 common myths about Climate Change & what science
really says’ by Jeff Berardelli [meteorologist & climate specialist]. Perhaps
once you have read this slowly you will understand that the deadline 2030
is a very important date – & that some ‘Agreements’ of 2050 are, by far,
too late to turn things around. The article is a CBS News online & easy to
follow. See above where I say ‘99% of our problems are man-made.’ I was
around in the 60s & 70s when the public began to wake-up that there were
problems with climate. Some mistakes were made then but I am pleased
we at least asked the questions we did. With the world’s population growth
the earth problems ‘got seen’ as well. We need to deal with this stuff-up
    that will not go away.

  10. What a hot topic! It’s surprising the sea is not rising any faster than it is with so much hot air around.
I understood, surprising though it sounds, that the Earth’s ocean – there is only one of them – does not rise uniformly around the globe. And so, if that is true, then what the ocean is doing in Sydney harbor is not a good indication of what it is doing elsewhere. And so, to get an average planetary rise, one would have to take multiple measurements all over the planet in different seasons and do it very accurately with the latest satellite technology etc
No doubt scientists have done that.
    What’s the latest result?
I don’t know. But I would not be buying a house at current sea level!
