Queensland Health is asking anyone who has arrived in Queensland from New Zealand since 14 January 2021, including on green corridor flights, to get tested and quarantine until they receive a negative test result.

This comes after New Zealand recorded a confirmed positive COVID-19 case in a returned traveller who tested positive after completing 14 days of hotel quarantine. The woman has since visited a number of locations in New Zealand.

The woman is confirmed to have the South African variant of COVID-19, which is more contagious than previous variants.

Queensland Health is urging anyone who has returned from New Zealand to get tested immediately, even if you do not have symptoms and to quarantine until you receive a negative result.

Contact tracing is currently underway by New Zealand Health authorities.

For anyone with concerns or is unsure if they need to get tested or isolate, please call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84).

To find your nearest testing clinic, visit https://www.qld.gov.au/covid19testing.

The list of contact tracing locations is available at https://www.qld.gov.au/health/covid-19/contact-tracing.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
