Kingsford Smith Reserve.

Ballina Shire Council is asking for survey participants and other submissions regarding a Master Plan for Kingsford Smith Reserve.

Council has received funds to upgrade some facilities at Kingsford Smith Park to meet the requirements of a regional sporting facility.

Manager Strategic Planning Tara McGready, said that some of the facilities in Kingsford Smith Reserve are ageing and need to be replaced or renovated to bring them up to current accessibility or inclusivity standards. ‘To ensure the upgrade aligns with a broader vision for the precinct, Council has engaged a consultant to prepare a master plan for the broader Kingsford Smith Reserve area.

‘The Master Plan will include concept designs for the three individual parks that make up the whole Kingsford Smith precinct. The area is one of Ballina’s major sporting and recreational areas, and it is naturally beautiful with scenic views of North Creek and the Richmond River.

‘We really need to look at the precinct as a whole and have a clear vision for the future, making it an open space that can be enjoyed for many years to come, at the same time meeting the needs of our growing community,’ said Ms McGready added.

Council is appealing to the community to have their say on what improvements, aspirations and facilities are needed for the future via a short survey on Council’s website

Submissions Close Wednesday 9 June 2021.
