Making Lismore Showground accessible to everyone

Liz Friend, Reality Check Campaign

We need to take a reality check here! I have heard and read so many heartbreaking stories recently from people within our community who have become homeless owing to unreasonable increases in rent.

To quote a single mother I know, ‘No one cares. Snap up another investment home and just look the other way when reality bites… much nicer to be traumatised by the stress of comparing the size of your decks than the size of the homelessness issue. And, I don’t particularly like being called your “issue”. I’ve quietly paid rent increases for over 20 years… your GREED is the issue which seems to be destroying this community.’

This is desperate stuff… a sense of real helplessness and frustration. Surely, we can do better? Can we please recognise the scale and the impact this is having, right now, on people’s lives. We need your help at this crucial time.

We are close to the end of financial year. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Reality Check campaign to help alleviate this crisis. Please go to nrcf.org.au/nrcf-housing-fund. Thank you.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
