Peter Garrett gives Bluesfest the nod

If I say the words ‘US Forces give the nod’, I can pretty much guarantee that you will hear the unmistakable voice of Peter Garrett ringing in your ears. Your head may even start to bob up and down a bit.

A seasoned bard

Guy Kachel had an idyllic entry to the world of music. Born in Tamworth, he was raised on the banks of the Peel River. The landscape was a fertile ground for his imagination. Seeing this rustic world change, as Tamworth developed into an inland city and friends grew to sometimes troubled adulthoods, provided insights for the artistry that later powered his career as a performer.

NORPA’s wild ride at Lismore Showgrounds

NORPA is taking audiences on an adventure outside the theatre once again, announcing it will stage its original work Wildskin in a warehouse space at the Lismore Showgrounds. A sensory, destination theatre experience, Wildskin inhabits an outrageous and unpredictable world that’s part bush-thriller, part road-trip and a whole lot of NORPA’s signature theatrical style.

Dog controls – is there any chance Byron Council could start properly funding and enforcing animal control across the Shire?

I am out in the community every day and the last time I saw one of the ranger vehicles was probably more than a year ago. If you own a dog and it is wandering by itself, not under control on a lead, and you are not picking up their disgusting landmines, you should be fined. No discussion, no excuse, your opinion is invalid. You deserve to be fined. Or at least until such a time that there is suitable enforcement, have your day ruined every now and then by another equally irresponsible dog owner.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. 30 years ago there was packs of dogs roaming the streets and on the beach ( there was no dog beaches then) of SGB. 30 years ago we didn’t care for people with dumb attitudes towards petty issues. This is your issue my friend, there are dog all over the world because the benefit of dogs in all our homes communities well and truly outweigh your poo poo concern.

  2. Hmm “your issue” Darren? No-one disputes the benefits of dog ownership – it’s not about that. It’s about having them under effective control at all times & cleaning up after them like a responsible dog-owning citizen, simply as the law demands, & the same as with registration & microchipping. Unless you have Barnaby Joyce syndrome & you’re exempt from laws & regulations that apply to us mere mortal normal people.
From your letter it seems like you wouldn’t mind a yard full of other people’s dog crap? Or covering the soles of your shoes with it?
Don’t you care if unrestrained excited dogs attack other dogs & people, & chase-catch-kill our every decreasing wildlife & threatened shorebirds?
What other laws & regulations don’t apply to the special dog owners of South Golden….. do you throw your rubbish in the street & on the beach? Or personally assault random strangers & their pets? What’s the difference?
And just for your edification it is a problem elsewhere in the world – possibly worse with rabies, & parasites such as hydatids.

  3. 30 years ago Darren Gray probably should have been practising his syntax and grammar skills. That may have prevented him making a goose of himself publically in these comments.
“We” in South Golden Beach? Sorry mate, it takes 40 years to be a local, unless you were born in Mullumbimby hospital, like I was.
