Rod Murray, Ocean Shores

Following recent interactions with some locals and some local businesses, please allow me to provide some facts regarding so-called ‘mask exemptions’ as provided by NSW Health:

‘There is very little exemption.’

‘Possible allowance may be for religious reasons, questions of identity or emergency, situations where visibility of the mouth is required, skin conditions, autism or trauma.’

‘The police may ask to confirm a lawful reason and then make a decision at the time or assign a penalty.’

‘No documentation is available or provided by NSW Health with regard to mask exemptions.’

‘Any shop assistant working without a mask or allegedly “exempt” does not exempt any member of the public entering without a mask.’

‘There are no exemptions for non-residential settings in regard to mask wearing.’

Let’s cut the BS and give a shit about doing the best we can for each other.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. “The police may ask to confirm a lawful reason”……….. yes officer I have a ‘lawful reason’…. my medical details are private………….. sorry I don’t have documentation……… documentation is not available.

    Religious reasons………. curious ?

  2. I believe my rights to do what I want as an individual come first and that a free and open economy is more important than public health. That is my religion…it’s called the Church of the LNP.

  3. “Neurosurgeon, Dr. Russell Blaylock warns that not only do face masks fail to protect the healthy from getting sick, but they also create serious health risks to the wearer. The bottom line is that if you are not sick, you should not wear a face mask.”
