Mandy Nolan’s Soapbox: Asking for what you want

As a performer for over 30 years who has sat crammed next to toilet rolls in a supply room, dealt with dirty undies in the manager’s office and sat in a cold concrete outdoor space under a tarp in cyclonic conditions, I understand that when you crack the big time you might pull a few diva requests.

Political comment: International revolving doors

Corruption takes many forms, and has become more refined since the days of brown paper bags. In Australia, we have lobbyists, interests and politicians, with the traditional dividing lines between these three now all but invisible, and numerous examples of people moving from one position to another, and then back again, as they prioritise personal gain over what's best for the country.

Keith Duncan, Pimlico

The chooks have certainly come home to roost for the corruption riddled NSW government and ‘our’ scandal plagued premier. Fair dinkum, this bumbling woman is incapable of making a rational decision – how is she still premier?

Just when all the great work has been done by the Labor premiers of Qld, Vic, WA, ACT and the NT in suppressing the spread of COVID-19, Berejiklian’s political dithering in imposing a lockdown has allowed the virus to get out of control and put all of NSW – and Australia – at risk.

This is the same woman who played grubby politics by constantly ridiculing Annastacia Palaszczuk on her strict border closures that protected Queenslanders so well; and attacked Vic Premier Daniel Andrews when he had to deal with the terrible outbreak in the federally controlled aged care sector. Gladys would be best advised to drop her conservative arrogance and learn from the Labor premiers’ successes.

Gladys is now playing the blame-game card, to deflect attention from her incompetence. We were originally told ‘NSW will have no more lockdowns’, that went well. There is now a shit-fight going on, not only within the government, but also with the Federal government over their botched vaccine rollout. It’s a toss-up which government will win the award for ‘gold standard’ incompetent corruption.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Suggesting the Andrews govt. did great work suppressing the virus is a real stretch of your left bias and I would say an insult to the other premiers.
You say its a toss up which govt will win the gold standard for corruption. NSW Labor should win with names like Obied, Mcdonald, Tropodi, Orkopoulos, Paluzzano, Dastyari, Murnain, Face .

    • You conveniently failed to mention the Liberal politicians that were forced to resign over illegal fund raising and donation collections. And of course ex-Premier O’Farrell resigned over his bottle of Grange. Stay tuned as ICAC deep dives again into Not my Glad’s involvement with her Numero Uno’s current corruption difficulties.

  2. Oh. dear! it looks like a couple of right-leaning nerves got severely pricked here, typical response when there isn’t one.

  3. Well said Keith and keep up the good work. Someone has to hold this mob that call itself a Government to account. The one who has been insulting the Premiers is non other than our not so gallant leader, ScoMo from Marketing. He never seemed to let up on Dan Andrews and neither did Josh. And I can still remember ICAC pinging eleven Libs for accepting unlawful donations. Even Gladys has caught its attention.

  4. So let me get this straight. The Andrews Govt. 800 deaths The Berejiklian govt. 70 deaths and your saying Andrews handled covid better than Berejiklian. You would have to be in the loony left camp to believe that nonsense.

    • Ring, ring, anyone home? Ruby Princess – who was it that exported Covid from Sydney to the rest of Australia and overseas countries as well? Newmarch House and Dorothy Henderson Lodge – who was it that failed to evacuate all residents and send those that were Covid infected into hospital for proper health care? ‘Gold Standard’, ‘The woman who saved Australia’ – who was it that believed their own spin and BS that has now delivered the current Covid Lockdown debacle across Sydney. The body count that you like to point to is only part of the story and Not my Glad has never had anything to crow about when it comes to Covid.

  5. Joachim. You seen to assume I’m a Berejiklian supporter. Wrong. The “body count” is the story. Andrews 800. Berejiklian 70. 730 reasons Berejiklian controlled covid better than Andrews.

  6. David Fitzgerald Joachim clearly in aware
Of the numbers .. if matters little …as long as it suits the narrative who cares!!

  7. Yes Keith Duncan, right on the money! Gladys failed to lockdown Sydney early after the Bondi transmssions of Covid; she failed to follow Dan Andrews hard learnt new strategy of go hard go early; she failed to make mask wearing compulsory; she failed by allowing the big retailers to remain open while the ignorant continued to shop unnecessarily. The spread in NSW is down to the incompetent Liberals, no question.
