Danny Wakil, Billinudgel

Gareth Smith, you are clearly very passionate, but constantly providing incredibly one-sided opinions, and half-truths get us nowhere (14 July). I am factual and feel the pain of both Palestinians and Israelis.

Every Jew in the world, unless they’ve converted to Judaism, has DNA linking them to the land of Israel and Judea. Every one of them, even if they migrated to Europe etc over the centuries. Jews are indigenous to the land and it is as simple as that. Both Palestinians and Israelis deserve to live side-by-side in peace. Neither side is going anywhere, and peace will bring prosperity to all.

Hamas wants to kill every Jew in the world, not just in Israel, and they regularly state this. These are the people you love and support.

It was confirmed that in the recent Israel-Hamas conflict, over half of the dead in Gaza were combatants, but still, every death is a tragedy that could have been avoided. Palestinian civilians too were sadly killed, but only because Hamas fighters use them as human shields.

Many Palestinians and Arabs worldwide hate Hamas and the Palestinian Authority. They know  they are responsible for the suffering of the Palestinian people, including all deaths on both sides.

‘Hamas authorities routinely arrest and torture peaceful critics and opponents with impunity’, Human Rights Watch said in March 2019, when Hamas crushed a protest against them by Gazan people, as reported in the New York Times. Hamas is nothing less than a death cult. Fight for the Palestinian people by fighting to replace their leaders.

Peace is the only answer.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. But Jews aren’t indigenous to Palestine at all. Their own Torah lists the tribes already living in the land of Canaan when the first Israelite infiltrated.

  2. Danny,

With respect, you are wrong about Hamas. This story of insanely racist Palestinians who want to “kill every Jew in the world” is just so wholly untrue. When we read the Hamas charter of 2017, it says that Hamas accepts 2 states along 67′ borders.

Hamas’s 2006 manifesto, which it was voted into power on, clearly says the same thing. No Palestinians know about the 1988 charter, which was written before it because a real political force. The person who wrote it has since died and Hamas went in another direction after his death. Palestinians would never have voted into power an organization who’s impossible aims were so disgusting. It was only when they got new leadership and dropped all the disgusting antisemitic stuff that they began to be popular.

Also remember, by assassinating Arafat, Israel made it look like it had gained control of the PA, and the only logical choice for Palestinians was, vote for the corrupted and traitorous PA, or vote for the incorruptible HAMAS.

The other thing, is just like the USA used extremist militants against USSR and payed the price for it, so Israel helped make HAMAS to fight the PLO. This is not some conspiracy, it is well documented:

You need to stop judging us as made and murderous because we support the resistance. Anyone who has to live like we do would resist also, or support those fighting for their freedom. We are not mad and hateful, we want to be free!

You POV of HAMAS is totally out of touch and you have based it on a 33 year old document that was abandoned and has been updated many times.

As long as there is occupation, siege and apartheid, there must be resistance. This is seen all over the world and not just Palestine. Israel must withdraw from Palestine and let us breath or there is no chance for peace. There can be no piece under occupation.

    • There is nothing really new in the Hamas charter 2017 version. They are merely coming in line with Fatah and the two-STAGE solution toward Israel’s ultimate destruction. There is no recognition of Israel- let alone Israel as a Jewish state. Yes, they will now accept a Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 lines (the 1949 Armistice Lines). But, that is only the preamble to Israel’s demise, as a Palestinian state along the ’67 lines would render Israel defenseless to an Arab onslaught. Hamas hasn’t changed its colors, rather, only its tactics. And, this is why the two-STATE solution based on the ’67 lines, which has been the darling solution of most of the world, is full of holes and is a dangerous foundation for a true peace agreement.

  3. We do remember the Israeli settler groups protesting the other month shouting “kill or burn all arabs”.
Can somebody explain to me why a criticism of Israel’s policies is being anti Semitic?

    • Criticism of Israel’s policies per se isn’t anti-semitic. It’s when it gets obsessive, ignoring grievous abuses in other countries that one starts to wonder what is the intent.

  4. Prior to the forced immigration of European Zionists, there was little if no trouble between Arabs and Jewish people. If only the Zionists would cease their genocide against the Palestinian peoples then possibly steps could be taken to resolve the issue. But only after all land forcibly taken by the Jewish State and Zionists is returned tot he rightful owners.

    • What land forcibly taken? Do you believe this propaganda?
Israel has its legitimacy courtesy of the United Nations in 1948.
You don’t get your land back after you wage a war and lose.
