On the back of reports that NSW Health has detected Covid-19 fragments in Ballina sewage, Tamara Smith MP has just announced on her Facebook page that it looks like the local lockdown will continue past Tuesday and expand.
‘Just got off a zoom with the Deputy Premier and regional MPs,’ said the Member for Ballina. ‘The LNP are announcing a full 7 day lockdown for all of regional NSW from 5pm today.
‘We haven’t seen the details yet but as soon as I get I will update.’
For residents in the Lismore, Ballina, Byron and Richmond Valley LGA’S this will mean that the current lockdown will not be lifted at 12.01am on Tuesday 17 August as originally planned, but will now be extended to 5pm on Saturday 21 August.
Ms Smith said the sewerage traces of Covid in Ballina are a major concern as they are not linked to the current positive cases. ‘Please get tested if you have symptoms, follow the health orders and register to get vaxxed asap.’
