A local case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in the Lismore area.

The person attended a Goonellabah Public School on Monday, 13 September.

‘Investigations into the source of the case are continuing. Known contacts of the case are being contacted to get tested immediately and self-isolate,’ Lynne Weir, Acting Chief Executive of the Northern NSW local health district (NNSWLHD).

‘NNSWLHD is working with the NSW Department of Education to advise parents and pupils, and the school will be closed from tomorrow, Thursday, 16 September.’

Anyone with even the mildest of symptoms of COVID-19 is urged to get tested and self-isolate until a negative test result is received.

A full list of testing clinics can be found onilne.

NSW Health has put out a statement form the Principal Mark Spencer stating that ‘All staff and students are asked to self-isolate until you receive further advice’.

‘Our school will be non-operational effective immediately for the on-site attendance of students and staff to allow time for contact tracing and cleaning.

‘The Out of School Hours Goonellabah will be made non-operational as well,’ he said.

‘While we recognise this will be disruptive and inconvenient for families, it is important that we follow NSW Health advice and take all necessary precautions to minimise the risk of further transmission to support our community.’

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Apparently visited Sydney.

“But I miss ___________” is not a good enough reason to put hundreds of people at risk!!!.

    This is selfish beyond belief.

  2. Larger issue here!

To spite the government news, for those who became eligible for pfizer August 30th – earliest possible date for appointment is late November or December!!

According to the local pharmacies I visited, none are receiving Moderna. So all those what have stayed inside, minimized contact, done the right thing, not lied on applications (while not being part of the high risk group) are at higher risk due to this selfishness.

Obviously the case came from somewhere, I understand missing people. I had a family member pass during lockdown (not covid related) it was heart breaking not to be able to attend the funeral.

Here I am still doing the right thing watching this and protestors putting everyone at risk, unable to say goodbye to those I loved dearly… I’m over it, grow up people be considerate of one another – we all have to try to survive together!

  3. Yes apparently family / man visited Sydney then returned and child went to school on Monday.
So how long was case / cases asymptomatic in Community (Lismore and surrounding areas)?
So was exposure of Covid picked up in Sydney?

Now, slow Government responses. For example, when Z man up here (With his two big kids) from Sydney beginning of August 2021, media reported that Z man was supposedly looking at real estate. Note, this man did not use NSW Health Services ‘COVID scan app’ (Contract tracing) or record of where he went.
Note, gov and health did quick action ie. Byron / Lismore lockdown. Z was in Lismore Base Hospital.

    Now
Yesterday case in Goonellabah Public School.
Slow response from NSW Gov and health. The point. Covid Delta is highly contagious. If unknown variables possibly may put hundreds at risk of Covid in the Lismore and surrounding communities, then this possibly opens thousands at risk in two weeks. The consequences of this lack of government action?
Case in point, look at government action taken in ‘Yass’. Another, case in point of possible Covid cases rising and need for lockdown ‘Ballarat’.
    Remember’lockdowns don’t kill Covid does!

    A Need Exists FOR Answers.

Yes NSW Health working on it.

Now, it seems slow Government responses, for Lismore. Yes not near Sydney focus.
For example, when Z man up here (With his two big kids) from Sydney beginning of August 2021, media reported that Z man was supposedly looking at real estate. Note, this man did not use NSW Health Services ‘COVID scan app’ (Contract tracing) or record of where he went.

Remember’ lockdowns are not a pandemic which possibly kills or put people in ICUs and/or on ventilators- Covid does!
