Great letters from Robin Harrison, Hannah Grace and Gareth Smith on PM Scott Shyster’s war-mongering regime. He’s taken us across the event horizon into the terminal gravity of the Death Star. The awkward acronym clumsily disguises the hierarchy of power and sovereignty: reverse it to expose the truth. That’s us, the dumb “A”rse at the end: we’ve been suckered.
During his ‘war on terror’ fracas with the French, Dubya renamed ‘French fries’ as ‘feedom fries’. But remembering America’s long record of unpunished criminal wars, ‘freedom fries’ sparks another, horrific image for me: Vietnamese kids marinated in American Agent Orange then flambeed in American napalm. This is the ‘forever ally’ with whom Scott Shyster puts us in ‘lock step’.
The core business of the American regime is the perpetual making of enemies to justify the making of perpetual war. The purpose is to feed the endless appetite of the war machine and to batter open to pillage any country not already an American economic and cultural vassal. The price of dominance is eternal belligerence. It need not have been this way. But with an American base in Darwin it would take an extraordinary government to disobey Washington.
