New Brighton Farmers Market is an invasion of our community and needs to go!

The New Brighton Farmers Market is an invasion of privacy for locals and the impact is too much for our roads and nature reserve that are being treated like a car park. This is the wrong place for such a market and for this small community to continue having to tolerate it. Our roads see more traffic on Tuesday morning than all locals going to Coles for the whole week.

New Brighton, Ocean Shores and South Golden Beach are NOT tourist destinations. They are solely residential housing estates, so please, to the people that think we want this to be a tourist spot – you are very mistaken. Our local resources are struggling to keep up. So let’s take back our community, people, before it’s too late.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Elders Real Estate New Brighton, 6 Strand Ave, New Brighton. NSW 2483 used to handle the majority of the holiday rentals in New Brighton, South Golden and Ocean Shores. When Elders moved from New Brighton in 2017 or there about the dynamic was beginning to change.
At the time the New Brighton Farmers Market was established in 2007 there were as many holiday rentals in New Brighton and South Golden and there were residents, and it was a tourist destination.
In the 14 years the market has been here it has been a blessing to many.
The population growth since 2017 and especially since Covid has stretched the areas resources it is true.
Perhaps you have a suggestion where the Market might be moved to?
My first thought was maybe the Shores United Soccer Club on Shara Blvd.
But, to lose the New Brighton Market all together would be a tragedy.
