Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Our Pacific Island nation brothers and sisters such as Tuvalu, Kiribati, Marshall Islands are now faced with their existential threat with sea level rising. And so Glasgow COPout26 responds with, Blah, Blah, Blah, the world continues onwards and upwards with burning Coal, Oil and Gas. So long as atmospheric CO2 continues to climb ( we’ve gone through 410ppm )the Paciifc Island nations have zero hope for their future existence.

  2. Come on man !! NASA satellites clearly show
Some island’s have lost some ground
Majority are stable and some have grown
If you tell a lie for long enough Eventually people will start to believe you…

    • Barrow old son, telling lies you moan, that’s funny come from you. Tell us again how Australia has warmed 0.6 degrees since 1910, yeah. Please don’t disrespect our Pacifica brothers and sisters by running Andrew Bolt lines dismissing sea level rise impacts on Pacific Island nations. If you bothered yourself to do some basic research on the sea level impacts on Tuvalu, Kiribati and Marshall islands you wouldn’t take up valuable space in these very fine pages of The Echo and keep making more of a fool of yourself.

  3. Quite the contrary sunny boy,
I wonder why the sad, self hating cultists, beleive this total garbage. Even their abc had this one.
A lie perpetuated by another lie is easily believed by the stupid and blatantly ignorant who want to destroy our counry. Sadly these evil greenmonkeys are destroying the minds and futures of our young and our young are too ignorant to understand. Thank you parents and teachers. I guess the sea level doesnt rise at Fort Dennison 🙂

  4. Oh My God, I thought all of the Neanderthals disappeared around the end of the last ice-age; either I’m wrong or some have been reincarnated somehow, that ridiculous post by “Tito” does not deserve any sort of a dignified reply, please fellow homo sapiens don’t don’t lower yourselves to do it.

  5. Barrow old son, Stay the Course = making stuff up, telling lies, throw up distractions and diversions, DON”T let any of these stop you acknowledging the reality, yeah.

  6. Keith & Joachim ever traveled to the Pacific nations ? Well i have my latest trip was to the Maldives.. asked my families & locals
Why are new airport’s and resorts being
Built close to the Ocean, considering the
Scientists or should i say computer modeling are predicting the Maldives will
Be consumed by rising sea levels in the
Next 10 years .. the answer from all i asked ?
Hysterical laughter by most .. not one i asked
Had a concern with sea level rise’s ..
    Actual Science and facts matter
Ironically it is the regressive left that embrace’s
    Science denial with gusto !!

    • So Craig, were these knowledgable folk scientists or cartographers, or researchers or land managers? Or just all-knowing ultra-observant folk unconcerned with facts like yourself?

  7. Yo Geographer and Climate Scientist Barrow, try not to bamboozle yourself before trying to bamboozle us Echo readers. Some basic geography Barrow my man, The Maldives are in the Indian Ocean old son. That’s the big ocean to the west of Australia, the Pacific Ocean is the big ocean to the East of Australia where you’ll find…Pacific Island Nations, yeah. But wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your Maldives getaway and that your Climate Science research – interviewing locals who have not a care in the world – has been validated. It reminds me of that other great Scientist , Pauline Hanson, who a few years back did some very ‘in depth’ ( pun intended ) research by taking a little dive on the GBR and came up to surface to declare, there’s no bleached coral down there, the GBR is all good.

  8. Even the ABC admitted that the GBR
Had more coral then of the past 35 years..
Of course reluctantly.. do we need to protect
The Reef 100% yes we do … whatever it takes to preserve …

    • Hang on Craig Pruul, let me get this straight…. now YOU are using the ABC as a source of factual information?? Wow!
And trying to use that tidbit of information you’re clinging to as a the basis for denying the tidal wave of factual information you’re raging against?
It’s called either cherry-picking facts on a grand scale, or mind blowing hypocrisy, take your pick, then your medication

  9. The Australian Baseline Sea-level Monitoring System has an array of 16 Seaframe Stations in Australian waters, that work in conjunction with standard CSIRO monitoring equipment. In 1992 the first of the satellite altimeters was launched called TOPEX/Poseidon followed by three more. All of these measuring systems are showing a steady increase in Global Mean Sea Level of around 3.2 +/- 0.4mm per year since 1920; with the rate increasing since 1993. The US. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have the 10 warmest years on record occurring since 2005 and the hottest 7 occurring since 2014. These highly credible institutions are as good as it gets, argument, what argument?

Last mayoral candidates Q and A: are you a landlord?

Here at The Echo we have seen and heard the word ‘housing’ come up time and again throughout the local government election campaign period, whether it’s from candidates or other voters.

On the ground work assists evicted women

We know the region has some of the highest rents, and highest housing costs in Australia. We all know that this has virtually eliminated affordable housing. We hear the stories of women and children being evicted, of couch surfing and living in cars.

Today is International Day of People with Disability

This language trend around People With a Disability has tended to emphasise the disability rather than the person, which can lead to derogatory labelling, depersonalisation or impersonal, collective references.
