A man suffered a serious lower leg injury in an industrial accident in South Murwillumbah this morning.

According to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter service, the 55-year-old suffered the injury when his left leg was run over by a forklift.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and the Helicopter Critical Care Medical Team and was then airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital.

He was said to be in a stable condition.
