Northern NSW Local Health District is urging people to get tested for COVID-19 at
the first sign of symptoms and isolate until a negative result is received.

Northern NSW Local Health District, Chief Executive, Wayne Jones, says that there were 62 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the district to 8pm yesterday, December 17.

Local Government Area new cases are:
• Byron 46
• Ballina 8
• Lismore 3
• Tweed 1
• Clarence Valley 2
• Kyogle 2
• Richmond Valley 0

‘There is one COVID-positive patient in hospital in Northern NSW,’ said Mr Jones. To date, no cases in NNSWLHD have been confirmed as the Omicron variant of concern.

‘The most common locations for transmission of COVID-19 in our region continue to be pubs, parties and gatherings in indoor spaces.

‘We encourage people to celebrate the end of year outdoors where possible, and to stay home if you are unwell, get a test, and isolate.

Venue of concern in Byron Bay

One new venue of concern have been identified in Northern NSW, visited by confirmed
cases of COVID-19 since a previous case at the same venue.

Anyone who was at Woody’s Surf Shack night club in The Plaza, 90-96 Johnson Street, Byron Bay, on Thursday, December 16 from 8pm to 3am, must immediately get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result, even if you are fully vaccinated or feel well.

The Northern NSW Local Health District reports that to 8pm last night, January 13, there were 905 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in the District – this figure does not include positive rapid antigen tests (RAT) for the reporting period.
