With all that is going on in the world, Magenta Appel-Pye’s letter this week and Lynne West’s letter two weeks ago make some of us keen to focus people’s thinking, each day preferably, on the power of gratitude.

I recite a Gratitude Prayer to myself each morning, ensuring that I have the right mindset to enjoy the maximum from my day – every day! The Gratitude Prayer, written by Louise Hay whom many will have heard of, and a few short lines from it here will give you an idea of how powerful ‘daily gratitude’ really is.

From the Prayer: ‘Deep at the centre of my being, there is an infinite well of gratitude.’

What a fantastic way to think of gratitude – an ‘inner well’ of gratitude, so deep that it has no bottom!

The Prayer goes on: ‘I now allow this gratitude to fill my heart, my body, my mind, my consciousness, my soul, my very being. This gratitude radiates out from me, touching everything in my world, and returns to me as more to be grateful for. The more gratitude I feel, the more I am aware that the supply is endless.’

The Prayer is more powerful when recited with a level of passion and conviction! And: ‘The more gratitude I feel, the more I am aware that the supply is endless. The use of gratitude makes me feel good, it’s an expression of my inner joy.’

There is more to this Gratitude Prayer, too much for me to write here and have The Echo publish it. Thank you, Lynne West, Magenta Appel-Pye, and The Echo. I hope that this letter helps inspire others to write letters to our local paper about their experience of gratitude, or to at least spend some time in this a new year, to think about gratitude.

To finish gratitude has been called the world’s most powerful drug (by Steven Bartlett). I agree with this statement 100 per cent, and please be aware, this particular ‘drug’ is free, and it is available to us all. When you wake each day and know that you are still breathing, as you are taking your first breaths be aware that another, somewhere in the world, is taking their last. Be grateful. Do not take life for granted!

Happy 2022!

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
