The main weakness behind all Danny Wakil’s arguments is his assumption that modern Jews have an inalienable right to occupy the area that was once biblical Israel. This argument is only valid if you choose to ignore two or three thousand years of subsequent history and the number of people who have occupied the land since biblical times.

His challenge to cite an historical definition of Palestine is invalid for the same reason and because ancient political systems are not comparable with modern ones.

Zionism itself was only created by Theodore Herzl in the 19th century. Jewish claims are based on passages from the Old Testament, which is a series of unverifiable myths, not history, and even the Jews’ unreliable history says that the Jews stole the land from the Caananites in the first place!

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Upon reading Gilet’s letter ” Wakil’s weakness” – I looked up the letter written by Danny Wakil only to discover that Gilet’s weakness is clearly a problem of not understanding what he reads.

I notice Gilet is just spouting the usual pro Palestinian propaganda promoted by many people ignorant of the real situation in Israel. Danny is right – Israel has offered the Palestinians many peace deals, none of which have been accepted. Perhaps Gilet could check some facts before sinking into pro Palestinian anti Israel rants. Has Gilet ever visited Israel and wandered around Jerusalem? I think not.

And Gilet may also do well to actually read Danny’s letter and address what was actually said.
