State Emergency Services reported nearly 3, 200 homes as damaged by flood impacts across the Northern Rivers late Wednesday afternoon.

The figure excluded 237 non-residential buildings.

The Lismore Local Government Area had the highest number of damaged properties, followed by the Tweed Shire, the Ballina Shire, the Byron Shire, the Richmond Shire, the Kyogle Shire and the Clarence Valley Shire.

Nearly 500 homes in the Lismore LGA were assessed as severely damaged while another 871 homes were classed as moderately damaged and 211 with slight damage.

More than 400 homes in the Tweed Shire were considered to have minor damage, while 169 had moderate damage and 49 were severely damaged, the SES reported.

The Tweed Shire had the highest number of non-residential buildings considered damaged at 82, followed by the Ballina Shire at 64.

In the Ballina Shire, most homes included in the report were assessed as having minor damage – the number was 360 compared to 46 with severe damage.

Only three homes in the Byron Shire were assessed as being severely damaged.

Another 87 were classed as having moderate damage while the remaining 133 had minor damage, the SES reported.

Numbers of properties assessed as damaged were:

  1. I fear that the number of dwellings assessed as damaged are an under-estimate of the families/individuals impacted by the floods. Many caravans have been affected and some dwellings have separate units on the ground floor which have been affected.

  2. What is the definition of severely damaged etc? Surely these figures cannot be correct for the Byron Shire? There was more houses than that damaged just in Mullum surely??!!
