When James Bullock and Christian Price-Wright decided to begin cold drip coffee company Holy Joe, they knew they wanted to take a different direction to the thousands of cafes specialising in espresso. ‘We’re the hottest continent on Earth, but high-quality cold coffee hasn’t quite made it to the mainstream yet, says James.
‘We wanted to create something strong, smooth and a bit sexy.’
Bringing something different to one of the world’s most sophisticated coffee markets wasn’t easy, but the two founders used a passion for brewing to find a niche through both the long and largely unknown cold drip process, and combining it with functional native mushrooms.
The result was a high-end looking bottle of extremely smooth cold coffee with a flavour that’s unique from both cold brew and traditional espresso, that James says can be drunk cold or hot. ‘Grab your nicest glassware and have it on the rocks, or heat it to make an extra-smooth warm coffee.’
The cold-extraction process used by Holy Joe ensures that some of the more subtle notes in coffee aren’t overpowered by acidity, meaning that cold drip guarantees a rich palate of flavours including Holy Joe’s signature nutty and chocolatey blends in both their Original and Decaf bottles.
