NSW Police say that man has been charged following a suspicious house fire.

About 2am today, (Friday 20 May), emergency services were called to a house on Colches Street, Casino, following reports of a fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and found the home well alight and had the fire extinguished around 3am. The house, which was unoccupied at the time, sustained significant structural damage. There were no reports of injuries.

Officers attached to Richmond Police District attended and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident. A crime scene was established which was forensically examined by specialist police.

A short time later, an 18-year-old man was arrested on Colches Street and taken to Casino Police Station where he was charged with damage property by fire/explosion.

The Casino man was refused bail and is due to appear before Casino Local Court later today (Friday 20 May 2022).
