After yet another enormously tragic mass murder in America I heard on the radio that an NRA member believes that God gives him the right to self-defence and the Second Amendment gives him the right to bear arms with immense killing power far beyond anything available when the Second Amendment came about.
And so, he argues, the availability of guns isn’t a problem; mental illness is the problem.
But aren’t such irrational beliefs part of America’s mental illness?
President G W Bush said that he attacked Iraq because God told him to do so! Catastrophe followed.
When will this madness stop?
Maybe when miniature nuclear arms become available over the counter and people take advantage of God’s authority and the Second Amendment, then that will be the end of America and so the end of the madness.
Every person has an inalienable right to self defense. The second amendment does give him the right to bear arms of immense killing power. Availability of guns is part of the problem, so is mental illness. Nuclear weapons are not “arms” so not allowed under the 2nd amendment.
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Militia means an military raised by the citizens themselves, separate from the government. Under law, the US government is not suppose to have a standing army unless there is an emergency. The have kept declaring emergencies since the war of northern aggression. If a government has special powers during an emergence, they will keep declaring emergencies forever. Seem familiar to our current situation?
If your upset about murder, then just pass a law against it. Anyone who won’t obey that law is unlikely to obey firearms restrictions.
Most people murdered in America are beaten to death. Each year in America, firearms save roughly 10 times the number of lives than all murders take. The ‘Gun Killing’ stats you are given include everyone that shoot someone to defend their own lives and the lives of others, including the police.
Nuclear weapons go bad just sitting in the cupboard and are amazingly expensive to get refurbished. Re-refining the plutonium and installing new triggers is not something you can just DIY in your garage no matter what your budget is.
More unproven stats from Christian. Keep trying one day you might say something factual.. by the way you do know it is an amendment and starts with a well organised militia, too many cowboy movies, I think, which are fiction about good guys with guns stopping bad guys with guns.
I know they are unproven but that’s just what the FBI provides us. The FBI stats also say that 50% of the violent crimes are committed by Black Men who are just 6% of the population. That can’t possibly be true, but that’s what their government statistics say.
When reading old documents it’s important to find out what the definitions of the words were at the time. Their War of Independence was fought by terrorists forming militia, then attacking the lawful government. Once the terrorists won, they wrote some documents that said that the people could have military weapons for the purpose of raising terrorist militia to topple future governments they wanted to get rid of, the way they just had done.
They had this crazy idea that the people could choose who governed them and even which system of government they had, and had the right to change things if they wanted too, even by force if the majority went along with it. In fact some of these terrorist leaders wrote that in my be necessary every 25-80 years, because government systems go corrupt so fast.
Helps if you go and read the Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers written by these terrorists so that you know where they were coming from. Everyone at the time knew what ‘well organised militia’ meant, and it didn’t mean ‘standing army’. US law forbids having a standing army except in an emergency. They have declared a non-stop emergency for 160 years so far. The US government has been at peace for 4 years out of it’s ~250 year existence. But that’s just another unproven statistic provided by the library of congress.
Notice how you have been trained to say ‘fact’ instead of ‘true’. Those words have different meanings. I contradict your facts with truth, thus your cognitive dissonance.
Goodness me – now we have a gun lobby all of our own.
